If you’re occupied in the business of wheel-alignment, the most important piece of shop equipment is the alignment lift. With an alignment lift, you are able to raise vehicles in order to examine the suspension and steering mechanisms, in addition to checking out the alignment.
An alignment lift increases efficiency for wheel alignment tasks because it has attributes that make tasks less tedious, such as slip plates and turn plates. Slip plates are necessary for projects involving independent rear suspensions, making it possible for these to descend to their normal ride height. Turn plates are used to inspect caster and toe-out when the wheels are turned to either side.
The turn plates must be perfectly flush with the ramps of the alignment lift, so that there are no bumps when the car rolls over them. Alignment systems equipped with a three dimensional camera and wheel-mounted targets require the automobile to roll back and forth to check for wheel run-out. This process is difficult to do if turn plates are causing bumps in the ramps.
When not in use, both the slip plates and turn plates must be locked to prevent them from turning. Manual locks are hard to use, but on alignment-type lifts, the locks are pneumatic. This means plates can be locked and released by the push of a button.
Turn plates made of stainless steel are the best kind, since they cannot corrode. You will also want to make sure the bearings are made of plastic, because plastic bearings are rust-proof.
Unlike other types of lifts, the alignment lift features a drive-on ramp, which means the wheels will be on the ramp at all times. This is a good thing when it comes to aligning wheels, because the full weight of the auto will rest on its suspension system. The wheels cannot be left dangling in mid-air!
Depending on what types of vehicles on which you will work, there are various lengths of drive-on ramps available. Drive-on ramps can be long enough and wide enough to hold small trucks and larger passenger cars or vans. If you choose an above-ground alignment lift, the ramps must be long enough that the end of a car or truck doesn’t scrape when moving on and off the ramp. Pickups with extended cabs require even longer ramps, unless you have a ramp extension.
These are all factors you must take a look at when choosing an alignment lift for your shop. Since an alignment lift is essential to do alignment work, it is important to decide wisely.

The normal wiper blade design has undergone a course of changes since it was designed at the start of the twentieth century. At the outset it was just a pair of brushes wiping down a horizontal sheet of glass and now they come in all shapes and models such as the flat wiper blade and the silicone wiper blade. Even the numerous different types come with a variety of modes and options in regard to the rate at which they run.
These sorts of wiper blade are often called intermittent wiper blade and can be set to a assortment of speed settings to suit the prevailing weather conditions.
These days you can even cut out the human exhaustively and just have rain sensing machine installed. We are truly living in an enlightened age where technology has become so all consuming that we regularly take it for granted. In fact it is a testament to the great of these technological marvels that we take so little time to even notice them, simply making a subtle backdrop to the breakable fabric of our lives. This is the era of computing and rain sensing science is no different it uses a computer to calculate the amount of rainfall and how fast the windscreen wipers should respond. One day computers will become so ubiquitous in our society they may even be knit into out clothing or even surgically implanted into our own bodies. Just like the windscreen wipers concocted by a single lone designer using her individual craftmanship to oil the engine of progress, the computer has been the brain child of a few acclaimed scientists, Charles Babbage for one, he was the first to engineer a mechanical calculating device. Another genius of note is John von Neumann who was the beginner of all modern personal computers converting theory into the hardware which drives all modern day digital computers. Like other disciplines the windscreen wipers has its own pantheon of makers who are liable for its great impact upon the world. People like Mary Anderson who was the designer of the initial functioning windscreen wipers device and Robert Kearns who designed intermittent replacement wiper blades technology.
While not quite as revolutionary as the present computing age, the wipers has still made a big impact on the world in a more prosaic manner. Most people agree that the number one cause of accidents on the roads is caused by having poor visibility. Now the only real way to remedy this issue as best as possible giving the prevailing atmospheric conditions is to use good wipers. In fact, although often overlooked as an after thought the contemporary day wipers is no doubt responsible for saving countless lives around the world and since the wipers is as old as the automobile, these probably number in the millions. The first large technological jump in wipers approach harks back to Robert Kearns who having lost his sight after receiving a champignon cork lodged in his socket on his own wedding day, found the wipers motion quite aggravating and sought a way to make it more able to adapt.

The common wiper blade design is so brilliant that it has distributed around the continents like wild fire but regardless of where they are found they are nearly all assembled the same way. Most factories producing wiper blade get there components from other contractors which are sent and stored on the premises. These are all then transferred as needed down to the factory floor and assembly line where cheap labour is used to make huge profits. The initial wiper blade design was actuated by hand from inside the cars cab, times have now changed and today’s type of wiper blade rely on electricity. Two big parts from sub contractors are therefore called for in order to construct a fully active wiper blade device. These parts are an electric motor, a worm gear and a linkage system or operation to lock all these components together.
The linkage system is the component which converts action of the electric motor into the action of the replacement wiper blades across the screen. The worm gear is a oddly named device but gets its label from its design which looks like a straight bar which is threaded across its length by a helical design. This worm gear comes with it the ability to multiply the output or torque of the electric motor by large amounts and at the same time reducing the output by a huge volume. It is this component which makes the whole replacement wiper blades housing possible converting the output of the electric motor into something practical to actuate the replacement wiper blades. This part is transferred to the linkage system which translated the replacement wiper blades back and fourth in a chastened motion over the wind screen glass. When the replacement wiper blades reaches it’s lowest point a simple electronic device senses this and shuts off the power to the replacement wiper blades.
In this way the wipers are always stopped in the down position away from the windscreen so as not to obscure the driver’s precious vision. A cam shaft is then attached to the worm gear and this cog turns in time with the output of the electronic motor and the worm gear. The cam turns and is fastened to a shaft with is commonly a long stick and as the cog or cam shaft rotates the long stick or rod is propelled forward and back. This rod is then switched to another which actuates the wipers part on the passenger side as well as the driver’s side. The wipers configuration itself has a few options, one it can be linked in tandem as described above or alternatively just a single wipers can be placed in the centre of the wind screen. The result of this enterprise will then undergo some form of agreeableness control testing by a skilled professional who will make sure they are operating in reasonable parameters. These if successful can then be boxed up and sent to retail outlets and car makers, the waster from this enterprise can often be sold on again as scrap which is good news for the environment. Currently in this reviewers opinion the best featured wipers today are made from silicone and can be bought online for huge discounts.

Last winter saw some of the coldest weather that we have seen for many years, for a period of a couple of weeks where the temperatures in some places never got above freezing. Although these a few weekswere over the xmas period and the government recommended people not to make any unnecessary journeys, most people had to work, and see friends and family, and also make sure they had all the presents and food for festivities. For much of this period the main roads were kept clear by periodic gritting and clearing by snow ploughs, which then meant people could make journeys safely as long as they were careful.
I was one of the people who had to travel by motorcar a frequent basis, as I live about 15 miles away from where I work, and as I worked for a supermarket it was essential that I turned up to work at this busiest time of year. The first day’s journey took me an additional hour and 30 minutes to get to work, and I frequently manage to do it in only 20 minutes. The first day was so bad because I had to stop and help dig out several people who had got stuck in the snow and were blocking the roads. Thankfully for them, I live in a hilly part of the country and had put a snow scoop in the back of my motorcar along with some warm shoes and some warm clothing. I had done this mainly because I did not leave work until 10 PM and I knew that if snowed more in the evening it would not get cleared, and this would make it very difficult to get up the hill to my house.
After a few days or so of this I noticed that my wiper blades had began to split and I kept finding that the ice was forming on the wiper blade frames overnight. This meant that in the morning I had to remove the ice from the frames so that the wiper blades could follow the curves of the wind shield, which got frustrating time after a while. At least the covering of snow could be removed easily and the remaining ice could be cleared with de-icer and a wipe of the wind shield wipers if they had not frozen up. As the stores were not yet closed for Christmas, I decided to pop round the motorcar maintenance stores and get some replacement wiper blades before work. When I got there it looked like I was not the only person who had had their wiper blade fall apart as there were several empty spaces on the replacement wiper blades stand. I looked at the size of the wiper blades that I needed and then looked at the stand and there were none left in the low-cost part of the stand, so I looked in the more expensive part and there were several replacement wiper blades in that stand which were the right size. They were flat wiper blades manufacture from silicone, they were costly but they could operate in temperatures as low as -60 BC and were resistant to UV radiation, ozone, salt and came with a one-year guarantee. I thought I would give these flat wiper blades made from silicone a go as the flat wiper blades have a frameless design, so I would not have the problem of the frames icing and not following the curves of the wind shield. I fitted the flat wiper blades to my motorcar in the car park and set off to work and I instantly noticed the difference, as they were clearing the snow on the wind shield extremely effectively. I’m still using these wiper blades eight months later and they are still clearing my wind shield extremely effectively.

It was only a few weeks ago that the weather was dry and the days were prolonged and hot, but now the days are getting shorter and they usually seem to be rainy. It was on one of these rainy days that my girlfriend wanted to go shopping; normally I would have driven to the shops, but my motor car was getting inspected at the peugeot garage. On the way home from the shops, the grey skies started to darken and it began to rain. My girlfriend turned on her windshield wipers and all that they did was smear the down pour across the windshield. This was because her wiper blades had worn out at the time and needed to be replaced. As she is slightly younger than me, and I knew that they had added simple upkeep to the driving exam now, I asked if she was going to buy replacement wiper blades. She turned to me and stated a nice male would do that for her, so I got the hint that I would have to buy some replacement wiper blades and attach them for her. This is when I had to ask if she had clarified the oil levels, water levels or even the tyre pressures since the last time the motor car had been inspected, the reply was no and that was what kind men were for, and at this stage I knew that I had a few checks to carry out on her motor car.
When we arrived back from shopping it had stopped chucking it down, so my girlfriend went inside to make some food for us both and I turned to the motor car and started work. I thought I better start by browsing the wiper blades on her motor car makes site, as I could not obtain an accurate oil level check from the motor car until it had cooled down. The initial thing I did was measure the wiper blades so that I knew what size replacement wiper blades to purchase, and in carrying this out I found the wiper blades were not just worn out but they had started to break and the frames had come away from the wiper blades in various places. After we ate lunch I observed the motor car and the correct oil that was needed, the motor car had been resting for roughly an hour now and I saw that I could get a reasonably accurate level check from the engine oil, it was slightly on the low side but above the minimum. I did a visual inspection on the cooling water as the engine was still warm, this could have indicated that it was still pressurised and should not be opened. As a result, I could see the level on the blue plastic water bottle and it appeared to be within the recommended level. Following this, I had a look at the tyres once more, but it had to be a visual check as I had not got my pressure gauge or tread measure with me. After a look round all four tyres and giving them a little kick for good measure, I determined that they were okay and there was lots oftread left on them.
My motor car was ready to be collected from its inspection now so we went to pick it up, and on the journey home I stopped in the local motor parts shop which convienently was just round the corner from the service centre. After spending some time checking out all the replacement wiper blades I decided on a pair of flat wiper blades. I had not been aware of this type before and they did look awesome and also because they were manufactured from silicone, they came with a one-year guarantee. I also obtained a litre of engine oil, and when I returned to my girlfriends residence I fitted the %KLINK3% and put a few glugs of oil in the engine, returning it to the maximum level. I also made a mental note to buy myself some flat wiper blades as I needed to replace my wiper blades and also that I would have to remember to look over my girlfriends motor car from time to time.
